Enjoy reduced cruise fares on Holland America cruises close to Australia

Holland America Line has been a recognised leader in cruising, taking guests to exotic destinations around the world. Holland America was founded in 1873 as the Netherlands-American Steamship Company. Because it was headquartered in Rotterdam and provided service to the Americas, it became known as Holland America Line (HAL).

Within 25 years, HAL owned a fleet of six cargo and passenger ships and operated between Holland and the Dutch East Indies. The line was primarily a carrier of immigrants from Europe to the United States until well after the turn of the century, carrying 850,000 to new lives in the New World.

In 1895 the company offered its first vacation cruise. Holland America Line now has a fleet of 15 ships that offer more than 500 cruises each year and visit all seven continents. Holland America Line's recent fleet-wide Signature of Excellence enhancements are evident in every aspect of the cruise experience offering guests more luxurious accommodations, new entertainment and enrichment programs, enhanced dining experiences and more creative activities.

A beautiful cruise liner in every respect. Ship was small enough to get into some tight spaces, Itinerary included Shetland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Norway I am also a big fan of Celebrity Cruises

The ship is looking a bit tired and needs upgrading in the cabins in particular.

Balcony cabin wardrobes poorly lit when opening doors. Unused & Wasted space in cabin near bed on outside wall of bathroom. Coffee cafe being up front of ship on upper deck was a long haul from other public areas. Hydrotherapy pool and spa excellent.

Antarctic Cruise February 2017 Zaandam was built in 2000 and our bathroom was showing its age The tiled floor and a crack in the hand basin were obvious signs Praise to Captain Joost for allowing all crew to come on deck to view icebergs. Weather conditions were almost perfect with flat seas and wind free days Humpback whales, and many seals on ice flows plus swimming penguins made this one if not the best cruise yet

The Asian cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong is a great cruise that gives you a taste of Asia. This was our first trip with Holland America and we found all of the crew and staff we met to be friendly and welcoming. The ships tours were organised like clockwork and you did not feel crushed when leaving the ship for tours. The service from our cabin steward was fantastic and she worked tirelessly and really looked after us, the dining experience was also great with the staff quickly learning my name and greeting me when we met and the food was 2nd to none. The support /retail / bar staff were also very friendly and made every effort to please. The ship has an old world feel to it with lots of maritime pictures as well as lots of artwork type of pictures. Even though things look old world everything is in great condition and the everyday we saw the maintenance team doing all the little jobs that keep the ship in top notch condition. There was a variety of age groups on board, although mainly 40+ and with a mix of people from Australia, the Americas and from Europe, a great opportunity to meet people from all around the world and if you want, maintain contact with them after your cruise and share your travel adventures with for years to come. I do not have a bad word for Holland America and if you give them a try you will be happy. PS we also have traveled through the Panama Canal with Princess Cruises.

The big negative on this cruise was not the fault of holland America. It was to do with the way the passengers treated the crew all day every day before our eyes. We apologised for their rudeness continually even though we did not know the offenders. Overall it made our experience not as positive as it should have been. It does not cost anything to be polite. Maybe passengers need to be reminded of this.
